Nicholas Epstein Memorial
TEFL Scholarship

The Nicholas Epstein memorial TEFL scholarship is provided by the Loudin-Epstein family in loving memory of their son Nick. Nick worked with Maximo Nivel from 2012 to 2017. He took part in Maximo Nivel’s Volunteer Abroad and TEFL Certification programs and he taught English with us from 2012 to 2013. Later, he was promoted to Creative Director for the entire organization in 2014. Nick lived, worked, and traveled with Maximo Nivel in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Peru until he passed away in October 2017. He was an incredibly valuable member of the Maximo team and his family honors his memory and the work he did in Latin America through this annual scholarship. The Nicholas Epstein Scholarship is a “full ride” for the Maximo Nivel TEFL Certification program and covers tuition, books, housing, and meals.
- Applicants must have completed at least 2 weeks of a Volunteer Abroad program with Maximo Nivel during the previous 12 months.

- Applicants must provide a 1,000 word essay on why they would like to teach and live abroad.
Veterans’ Scholarship Program

Selection notification: 1 November
As an opportunity to thank the men and women who have served in the United States military, Maximo Nivel provides 2 scholarships each worth $1,000 to help fund a study abroad program in Latin America. These scholarships are awarded every year on Veterans’ Day. Applications are accepted between 1 June to 30 September. Regardless of the branch of the military you served in, or your current age, if you are a U.S. military veteran, you qualify to apply for this scholarship. These scholarships may be applied to any Maximo Nivel program, including Spanish Immersion, Volunteer Abroad, International Internships, TEFL Certification, and University Courses.

Audrey B. Jones Memorial Scholarship

Selection notification: 1 November
The Audrey B. Jones memorial scholarship is provided by the Jones family in loving memory of their grandmother “Emaw.” This scholarship is awarded to current university students majoring in Journalism, Art, or Conservation related programs. Audrey Jones was a graduate of Syracuse University School of Fine Arts in 1941. She was an art teacher in the New Paltz, Old Forge, and Clifton Springs (New York) school systems. She was also a correspondent for the Geneva Times and was a member of the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic Auxiliary. An avid conservationist, Audrey was a member of the Genesee Hiking Club and the Adirondack Mountain Hiking Club. This is a $1,000 scholarship awarded every year on 19 February. The award may be applied to any Maximo Nivel program, including Spanish Immersion, Volunteer Abroad, International Internships, TEFL Certification, and University Courses.
