VOLUNTEER WORKING
WITH KIDS
CHILDCARE VOLUNTEER PROJECTS ABROAD
Homelessness and poverty have left many children in Latin America without access to proper education and a loving environment. Maximo Nivel’s childcare projects aspire to change children’s lives by providing caring and nurturing volunteers to work, study, and play with them. Our childcare programs are the right place for caring and responsible people who want to improve the lives of underprivileged kids. Attention and care go a long way, especially in the development of young people and your help is very much needed and appreciated.
Volunteer projects working with kids provide individual attention and assistance to children from difficult and challenging backgrounds. These children suffer from abandonment, abuse, and poor education, and they do not receive the love and affection they need and deserve. As an international volunteer, you play an important role supporting local organizations who work tirelessly to improve the educational, emotional, and hygiene conditions of these impoverished children. Your assistance helps local caregivers and professional advocates keep the kids off the street and provide the structure they need to have a productive and happy childhood.
All volunteers who work with kids are required to submit a valid criminal background check.

Why I Maximo Nivel
My time volunteering with Maximo Nivel was great! Before arriving in country, and while there, they were extremely communicative and helpful with every aspect of my experience. My volunteer placement was a short bus ride from my home stay and the kids were wonderful! I also enjoyed talking and working with the teachers, all of whom were very welcoming and friendly. My supplemental Spanish classes were very helpful and schedules are flexible when doing two programs at once. The whole Maximo staff is friendly and accommodating.
WHAT WILL YOU DO AS A CHILDCARE VOLUNTEER?
Volunteers work in daycare facilities, community centers, and schools. Depending on your individual skills and interests, your volunteer work may vary, but generally includes supporting local project staff, providing individual attention and care for the kids, organizing games and sports, tutoring, hygiene education, and cleaning. Your love and support are the most important things for these disadvantaged children. Bring your special skills in art, music, dance, and theater—remember a child’s play is a child’s work. We encourage you to use your skills and creativity, be open-minded, and be ready to pitch-in and help out.
WORKING WITH KIDS
IN COSTA RICA
Costa Rica is one of the most developed countries in Latin America, however 1 in 5 families still lives in poverty. Children from these impoverished families do not receive the attention and support necessary for proper development, and kids are often neglected while parents work.
International volunteers help care for underprivileged children in community centers, daycare centers, and shanty towns (‘precarios’). Volunteers support the professional staff at the local project sites to provide love, support, and individual attention to each child. Your volunteer work is mostly focused on keeping children engaged in activities, homework, and play time. It is also important to help with cleaning and hygiene to keep the children healthy.

WORKING WITH KIDS
IN GUATEMALA
In Guatemala, families face many severe economic disadvantages and children are often the first victims. Neglect, abuse, and abandonment are critically important issues in Latin America, as people struggle with a lack of financial resources and inability to care for their children.
Maximo Nivel volunteers work with kids in after school programs and daycare centers around the Antigua area. The professional staff at these projects work hard to provide individual attention to each child, but the task is often overwhelming. As an international volunteer, you help bring kindness and care and academic support—with your help, children begin to develop important social skills for life and improved hygiene habits that keep them healthy. Your enthusiasm and devotion to helping others goes a long way in Guatemala!
WORKING WITH KIDS
IN PERU
In Peru, severe economic disadvantages lead to neglect, abuse, and abandonment. These are significant obstacles to creating a strong country based on equality and democracy. As young Peruvian boys and girls struggle with poverty, discrimination, crime, family violence, and inadequate access to healthcare and education, there are many opportunities where you can help.
As an international volunteer, you work in after school programs and community centers around the city of Cusco. You work closely with local project staff to engage children in playtime activities, homework, and sports. It is also important volunteers help with hygiene education and cleaning. Your volunteer work creates a safe, positive space, and provides the structure kids need to live full, healthy lives.

We bring structure and organization to your volunteer program, and we match you with the best project according to your personal goals and the positive impact you want to have. Schedule a call with a program advisor today!
