STUDY ABROAD IN LATIN AMERICA
Latin America is the perfect place to study both modern and indigenous languages. Spanish is spoken by more than 435 million people in the world, while Quechua (Peru) is spoken by 8 million people, and Kaqchikel (Guatemala) is spoken by 200 thousand people. These vibrant languages and amazing cultures are alive and well in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Peru. At Maximo Nivel, university students can study Spanish at all levels, or pursue specialized language studies in Quechua or Kaqchikel.
Participants may schedule programs using the academic calendar or can take advantage of open enrollment Spanish Immersion programs, which begin every Monday year-round!
Maximo Nivel is a very unique Study Abroad center, as we host both international and local students on campus. Our institutes include international students taking part in Semester Abroad, Spanish, Service Learning, and Internship programs, as well as local Costa Rican, Guatemalan, and Peruvian students who study in our Native English Program. The Maximo Nivel campuses are vibrant learning centers where international and local students meld together and learn from each other through campus life and extracurricular activities.

Why I Maximo Nivel
I spent 5 weeks at Maximo Nivel in San Jose, Costa Rica and can honestly say that it was more than I ever could have expected in a Spanish Immersion Program. From the staff at the school to my teachers to my host family, my entire experience was amazing! I came to Maximo with a base knowledge of Spanish but I struggled to maintain conversation. Now, I feel confident in conversations and feel like I have a better overall understanding of the language. Additionally, I was able to meet some great friends and explore Costa Rica with them throughout my trip. It was an amazing experience and I would highly recommend this program for learning Spanish and getting to know Costa Rica!

University Spanish courses provide an authentic immersion experience that moves students beyond the traditional classroom—it is the most intensive and professional Spanish program available in Latin America! Students take their Spanish language skills to a new level through full immersion, which pushes them beyond their comfort zone and forces them to apply their studies inside and outside of the classroom.

TANDEM CONVERSATION
Maximo Nivel’s Tandem Conversation program is a free, optional language and cultural exchange. As an international Spanish student, you are matched up with a local student who is studying English at Maximo Nivel. Conversations are open, informal, and natural—taking the pressure off and allowing you and your tandem partner to bond and help one another move forward in your Spanish and English acquisition. This is a great way to meet new friends, develop your conversation skills, and increase your cultural understanding. The Tandem Program gives all participants unequaled access to the most important resource for learning a language—native speakers!
SERVICE LEARNING
FOR SPANISH LANGUAGE STUDENTS
Service learning provides unique opportunities to live and work in Latin America, while giving back to the global community. Short-term and semester-long service learning programs are available. Students can get involved in the following projects:

CUSTOMIZED PROGRAMS
Maximo Nivel organizes customized programs for faculty-led groups and student organizations who want a short-term educational experience in Costa
Rica, Guatemala, or Peru. These programs are usually 1 to 4 weeks long and consist of 3 main components:
